Bob Dylan – Take 2

We covered Bob Dylan before, but now that his biopic with Timothee Chalamet is out, we decided to give it another spin.

While Rolling Thunder Revue was a documentary capturing Dylan’s electric and chaotic 1975 tour, this new film takes a different approach, diving into the early days of his career and his transformation from Robert Zimmerman into the legend we know today.

The movie explores Dylan’s reinvention, highlighting his mysterious, almost mythical ability to shape-shift between identities while staying ahead of the curve. It’s a theme that resonates deeply when looking at his BaZi chart.

Dylan is a Yang Water Day Master, and his strength comes from the solid support of Water and Metal Elements. The Metal Element, particularly potent due to the Snake + Monkey combination, plays a key role in sharpening his intellect—perfect for a poet and songwriter. Metal represents the Intellect Component, and in his case, it’s exceptionally strong, fueling his ability to craft complex, thought-provoking lyrics that have kept audiences intrigued for decades.

Two Snake branches in his chart bring another layer to his persona—Yang Fire, which represents the Pioneer Talent. This energy makes him unpredictable, passionate, and naturally magnetic. It’s why he could effortlessly command attention, not just with his words but with his very presence. The mystical nature of the Snake also explains why Dylan has always been an enigma. Whether it was the way he played with masks, both literal and figurative, or how he constantly reshaped his public image, there was always an aura of mystery surrounding him.

His chart contains two key Supertalents—Altruist and Networker. Altruist reflects in his deep concern for social issues, something evident in his most powerful protest songs. Altruists are also usually good songwriters because they have the ability to introspect and describe their emotions. Meanwhile, Networker allowed him to gain followers and gather and inspire musicians around him, creating legendary collaborations that helped define multiple eras of music.

Dylan’s restless touring schedule—famously known as the Never Ending Tour—can also be explained through his chart. The combination of Snake, Monkey, and Pig branches gives him an impatient, youthful energy that constantly seeks movement and stimulation. It’s why he never stayed in one place, creatively or physically, for too long.

One of the most defining aspects of his success is the Entrepreneurship Talent Bridge (Business Talent Bridge) in his chart, linking his Intellect (Metal) to his Wealth (Fire). This connection gave him financial and creative independence, allowing him to dictate the terms of his career. While many artists struggle to retain control over their work, Dylan was always ahead of the game—reinventing himself on his own terms and ensuring his music remained relevant from the 1960s to today. The entire movie, A Complete Unknown, was basically about his struggle in the early days to get that creative independence. Due to his competitive and restless nature, he succeeded in that quest, quite early in his career.

Dynamic Talent Bridge charts are available on our BaZi Hero Android and iOS apps.

A Complete Unknown captures Dylan’s ability to become whoever he needs to be, and his BaZi chart reflects this same dynamic nature. He was never just one thing—he was always moving, always evolving, always a mystery.

Pioneer Talent, which is a dominant force in his chart, made him explore new territories, and never settle for mediocrity.
