Spring is the beginning of the seasonal cycle, a time of birth and new beginnings. It is also the energy of the element Wood.

This is the energy that brings forth new growth, that pushes the new grass through the snow, the new branches out from old wood, produces new leaves. It does this so nature can take in the nourishment it needs to flourish.

Spring is also the time of hope; this season bursts forward with optimism, offering change after the quiet, still time of Winter.

Each seed and sapling is following its own part of nature’s plan. Think of the wood of a tree, it gives nature structure and shape but does not let anything hold it back as it drives forward.

Without this type of change, all things would wither and die.

Liver and gallbladder organs are connected with the element of wood. Thus, when the liver is out of balance, the person can be very resistant and become literally a ‘stick in the mud’ type of person, who finds it hard to uproot themselves and adapt to changes. Thus they can be inflexible, irritable and nervous and even become angry.

This is when you can also see that liver disease will start to set in if they don’t change and learn to develop and heal their liver.

When someone has liver blockages and or weakness, it was discovered that they can get eye problems, nail problems, sinew, and ligament problems, liver diseases like Jaundice, twitching, sharp headaches, their right side of their bodies can have problems, problems and pains will move around the body like the wind moves, and they will generally be experiencing a lack of flow and smoothness in their lives.

In older times, the doctors used to describe people who were irritable as liverish, so you can see that not just the eastern peoples were clued into these observations, but it was there that they developed such a deep and complex understanding, that helps us today through energy healing and other such natural healing methods, to cure our ills and bad characteristics.

Wood is yang/masculine in character. The predominant attributes are considered to be strength and flexibility, as with bamboo. It is also associated with qualities of generosity and idealism. One quality of the Wood element is leadership. It is the leader within us, that can take charge and determine a plan of action. The wood is one that seeks always to grow and expand. Wood heralds the beginning of life, springtime and buds, sensuality, and fecundity.

Wood type people are often aggressive or assertive, direct, and can have a strong temper and a lot of drive. They are usually outgoing and socially conscious and can be insensitive. The Wood element is associated with negative feelings of anger, and positive feelings of patience and altruism.

The element of Wood relates to the person’s benevolence and gratitude. People who have a good heart, a positive outlook on life and those who are progressive in nature, have good quality Wood elements in their chart. Those who lack kindness or compassion, and who are unable to make progress in life, invariably have poor quality Wood elements.
