Lindsay Clancy: Audit Of The Tragedy Through BaZi Lens

I usually don’t like analyzing horrible tragedies, but the Lindsay Clancy case has been dominating our media lately, so I will make an exception and look into her chart.

I don’t want to discuss her motives, and I definitely don’t want to take a side in this political debate. The part that is interesting to me is the claim that she was suffering from postpartum depression, so my analysis will focus on that because this is something that BaZi can identify quite easily.

Lindsay was born as a weak Yang Earth; her chart carries a strong Metal Element, which acts as an Output Component. There is some Wood and some Water, but that only adds to general exhaustion.

Fire Element is present in the Horse branch, but it is too far from the Day Master to provide significant support.

Overwhelming Metal Element

The key Element is Metal, which represents her children. This Element is overwhelming at 58% of her chart, meaning her Yang Earth, which represents her persona, is totally exhausted from delivering and raising children. To understand this dynamic, imagine a small mountain that has been completely depleted by mining activities.

This is a classic postpartum depression scenario.

Lindsay had three children, and you will notice that her chart features three Metal symbols, each representing a child.

In her spouse’s (husband’s) day branch, there is Metal too, meaning her husband also contributes to that exhaustion, so she perceives her family situation as one in which she lacks support. We don’t have her hour of birth, but considering the severity of her actions, it’s probably not that supportive either.

Energy leak

So, from her perspective, she feels like she is losing her energy all the time. We have to understand that this is only her perception; her husband’s chart can say something else, but we won’t involve him here to keep things simple.

January 2023, when she did this horrible thing, was the Year of the Tiger, the Month of the Ox. Tiger is in direct clash with her two Monkeys, and this was the tail of the Tiger year, so she was already on her edge. Ox harms Horse, so that little Fire support she had was also depleted.

Water flood

In 2021, she entered the Yang Metal Dragon Luck Period. Yang Metal increased the inauspicious Element, plus it was attacking her Yang Wood, which represents her husband. This is a so-called Hurting Officer situation where a woman wants to hurt a man by using her children as leverage.

Dragon was supposed to bring some strength to her Day Master, at least on paper, but something else happened: the Dragon combined with two Monkeys to create a massive Water structure that basically flooded her chart. This Water dissolved her Earth and Fire, making her super emotional and unstable. This flood led to increased psychological issues.

So, as you can see, this was not just one constellation; this is a string of unlucky chart dynamics that pushed her over the edge.

Political dimension

I’m aware that this issue is heavily politicized these days, and it’s genuinely a complex problem. Yes, postpartum depression is the thing, but it doesn’t hit every woman in the same way. Lindsey was especially weak and susceptible to emotional and physical drain due to the enormous effort required to raise children, especially in her condition. This might not even be a physical problem; a person can be physically fit to be a mother, but often it’s about emotional instability and inability to handle the logistics and loss of personal freedom.

It’s an act of selfishness and weakness at the same time, which is why it is quite difficult to put a label of justice on this case. But if we look clearly, every criminal act is caused by a combination of chemical imbalance, selfishness, and weakness, so this case shouldn’t be treated any differently, in my honest opinion.

Another interesting aspect of the case is the substantial support Lindsay received from certain political groups. We are currently in a Fire Horse year, which is the strongest Fire Element possible, and pretty much exactly what she needs. Fire represents the Resource Component and general support, which is why she received immense support that peaked during the summer. She turned from a weak Day Master into a Day Master with unexpected leverage.
